Euthanasia is the painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma. Early 17th century (in the sense ‘easy death’): from Greek, from eu ‘well’ + thanatos ‘death’i.
“The care of human life and happiness and not their destruction is the first and only legitimate object of good government.”… Thomas Jeffersonii
Once in the not very old past, we as we as we as people with traditions cultivated for centuries had never imagined that his phenomenon would be even acceptable for our mindset and life perspectives, but even though, life changes, science develop; bringing with it new and modern things, it is believed that we had stronger morals and self-strength; due to the fact that we could cope with difficulties, pain, and suffering. Nevertheless, it’s quite arguable that Euthanasia has been legalized in many countries. I strongly believe that Euthanasia shouldn’t be allowed in any country, supporting my claim with arguments of which will be discussed as following.
To begin with, coming to discuss the issue in a psychological term. A person must keep optimistic about life no matter how hard it gets, whether it is sickness or suffering. We have to give hope to everyone about life and dig deeper and deeper in the positive outlook of life, because everyone wants a life although some don’t happen to have the chance of living a completely normal one, yet that does not mean that they do not deserve taking all the possibilities and opportunities to live just until the end. Imagining myself in the shoe of someone who is offered the opportunity to suicide just makes me more confident that anyone would choose life over death, and would repent ending his life by his own hands. How many depression cases would fall as preys to Enthunasia; considering that their decision can’t be made with conscious, is that fair?!
Furthermore, Euthanasia opposes the religious beliefs of a huge number of nations and people, and legalizing euthanasia will probably threat the devoted religious people. Death is considered one of the most important things that all religions deal with, and care about. Death is paid special attention by every faith, religion and nation. And based on all religions, every human beat is holy and sacred and is worth protecting until the last beat. And as the holy book of Islam states, “when their time comes they cannot delay it for a single hour nor can they bring it forward by a single hour”, and this means that every single life’s length is a constant and fixed, and we can’t change a thing toward that subject. And similarly in Christianity, life is a holy gift given by God and Jesus. The Declaration on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide is a joint statement from the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, a coalition of over 40 affiliated denominations. The statement, released Oct. 29, also has support from more than 30 other Christian denominations as well as 20 Jewish and Muslim leaders.iii
In addition, the legalization of euthanasia may be easily abused and misused by humans, relatives, doctors specially. Imagine in a case that somebody is inheriting a million euros if his father dies, wouldn’t giving him the option to give his dad an euthanistic death be an easy shot for him to live happily ever after. In another situation, a doctor may describe a patient accidental death as the patient’s will of euthanasia. So if euthanasia is to be legal, we will have to face the disaster of a devil taking advantage of this legal loophole, in particular people with influence and power. So now doctors will be provided a reasonable excuse to cover up their potential medical mistakes, relatives will be given a free shot to get all the money they ever wanted, and families will be given a chance to get rid of a big burden their patients are causing.
In conclusion, Euthanasia is a negative phenomenon because it’s basic meaning is to kill and end someone’s life. People should stay optimistic towards life no matter how hard the situation is or the pain and suffering is; because it will all eventually fade away, it disagrees and contradicts with most religions belief about life and death which certainly must be taken into consideration considering that most world’s population follows a religion, Euthanasia in some way contradicts with ethics due to the fact that it can be abused and totally misused for unjustified human benefits.
Life is worthless, so deciding to end it is just like burying a huge treasure with no use, but just in something way more worthful. “The moment we stop fighting for each other, that’s the moment we lose our humanity.” (By Chiwetel Ejiofor’s character ‘Adrian Helmsley’ in the movie ‘2012’)
God had given us life, to enjoy and please ourselves, and the only one Who has the right to take it is the one who gave it, at the time he determines!
